Character Background
• History: Canon plot as a whole, Jun in particular
• Core Relationships:
+/- His father: Distant though he was, his father cared deeply about Jun as much as he cared about his biological daughter. Jun did not really appreciate this caring until near the end of his life. He finally reconciled with him - or was in the process of doing so, when he was called to pilot Zearth.
+/- Kana Ushiro: Jun blamed her for the loss of 'his' mother - when really the fact that Kana's mother died in childbirth was no fault of her own. He would attack her physically any time anything even remotely went wrong. Still, her bravery at the end of her life - along with Kanji's revealing that Kana asked him to not step in when Jun attacked her - made Jun reflect on his relationship with his sister and reevaluate his feelings towards her. Unfortunately by the time he came around, it was too late.
+ Yoko Machi: Despite his insistance that she was annoying and irritating, Jun cared about Machi. Her admission of attraction to him shocked him, but he didn't really get a chance to respond before she was shot. He clearly cared for her or he wouldn't have agreed to visit the families of the other pilots with her.
- Misumi Tanaka: Tanaka was, to Jun, just another military officer until right before she killed herself to help Kana in her battle. The revelation that she was his mother did not really improve his feelings towards her - instead of some sort of parental love, he had feelings of abandonment. He refused to go to her funeral, stating that he 'didn't have the right' - but in all likelihood he wouldn't have wanted to go anyway.
Character Personality Through Key Moments
(2+) Positive Experiences:
+ Jun is loyal. This can be seen in his friendships with Kanji and Waku, telling Kanji that there's a reason he stuck around despite not being in the contract. He later demonstrates this by entering into the contract himself. He knows the risks and he knows what the outcome is going to be, but he does it anyway.
+ Jun is observant. He most clearly demonstrates this while on the trip to the families of the other children. He tells the families details about their children that even they didn't notice, but he did. He acts like he doesn't pay attention but really, he's observing everything around him.
+ Jun can be diplomatic. He's the one who explains a lot to the families of the fallen pilots. Despite intense reactions up to and including getting screamed at and hearing his classmates victim-blamed by people, including members of their own families.
(2+) Negative Experiences:
- Jun is wrathful. This can be clearly seen throughout the series as he beats up his little sister. He also yells at his friend Kanji when he doesn't agree with Ushiro. He is quick-tempered with a short fuse, and he's liable to lose it at any given moment. He even starts yelling at the enemy pilot when it doesn't wait for civilians to evacuate.
- Jun is traumatized. Even though he knows what he has to do, the grief of having to kill everyone on a planet is apparent throughout the last chapters of the manga. He's so guilt-ridden to the point where he vomits, but he must keep going despite the trauma it brings him. This shows up even earlier when he refuses to go to the funeral of his biological mother - he says that he has 'no right' to do so, largely due to his abandonment trauma.
- Jun is sarcastic. While some might see this as a good thing, Jun tends to use his sarcasm for dismissing people caring about him. He does this with both Kanji and Machi, blowing off their concerns or feelings about him in a very dismissive way. Jun can't imagine anyone caring about him, to the point where he pretends that caring about other people has no point.
Deer Country Attributes
• Canon Powers: No canon powers other than being very observant.
• Blood Type: Darkblood
• Omen: A golden retriever
• Blessed Day: July 17
• Patron Pthumerian: The Reckoning
• Blood Power Manifestation: Largely going to be focused on moving things with his mind. To the point where he'll be able to toss even people around, eventually. The angrier he gets the more extreme his powers get, so he's going to have to learn to chill out if he doesn't want to accidentally fling things around.
I also want him to be able to develop the ability to 'skip' - aka freeze time for very short periods so he appears like he's moving super fast and blinking from one location to the next, but it's really him freezing time for a second or two.
