I willingly took on a debt to a family that was nearly destroyed in part due to my own impulsive decisions a decade ago. The entirety of their archives was ransacked and torn asunder, the foundations of their ancestral magic shattered so deeply that it'll take three lifetimes to restore, and they have enough financial debt to fund a Hollywood blockbuster.
...My actions in no small way resulted in the death of their patriarch-- who, even though we were at odds, still taught me everything I know of magecraft.
Since his heir was five and facing assassination attempts before she was even able to attend school, it only seemed right that I step in as her regent, so to speak.
This means that I have to do anything that's asked of me by the family's debtors, including the family if my mentor's fiancee-- who was also slaughtered as a result of my own stupidity.
