Recipe for the archives of Lord El Melloi II

Fire Cider

A medicinal decoction of vinegar, honey, and various roots and herbs intended to boost immunity and quicken recovery from common respiratory ailments. To be used alongside medical therapies as needed.

Ingredients
Raw apple cider vinegar (5% acidity)
1 medium onion, diced
½ cup chopped fresh horseradish root
½ cup chopped fresh ginger root
8-10 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
1 or 2 jalapeños, chopped
One handful each of fresh rosemary, thyme, oregano an/or fresh sage (one or two tablespoons each if using dried herbs)
½ cup chopped fresh turmeric root (optional)
¼ cup raw local honey (optional)

Instructions
Place onions, horseradish, ginger, garlic, jalapeños, herbs and turmeric root (if using) in a clean, quart-sized Mason jar (or similar size glass jar).
Cover completely with apple cider vinegar (use a weight to keep ingredients under the vinegar if necessary).
Place a lid on the jar and shake to combine ingredients. Let sit for 3 to 4 weeks, shaking once every day or two (or whenever you remember!).
Strain out the herbs and solid ingredients and reserve vinegar. Add the honey (if using) and shake well to combine.
Store in a cool, dark place and take a tablespoon of fire cider daily during cold and flu season to ward off potential illness. If already sick, up the dosage as needed. If you find the fire cider is too strong, chase with a spoonful of raw honey.

[ this late into the year and in this frigid winter, that's when the holidays would start up. it's been that way ever since california, or even home— but he never celebrated much at home. it was always missing someone, whether it be his brother or, as he got old enough, both of them, away from their families. marley could care less about its eldian subjects and how they spent their holidays.

this would falco's second december in trench, so the customs weren't exactly new. traditionally, he gathered feathers, ribbons, strings and decorative leaves along with a few dry pieces of white antler bone to take to his visit(s) to jun so they could decorate his room, and maybe his house, now that his wounds from the earlier month had sufficient time to close. not only that, but winter mournings aligned with the blessings of his own patreon, argonaut— and a boost of hope would greatly aid him during a time of mental tribulation.

jun's presence helps greatly with it, but even so, falco has been rather picky about his food lately, either declining to eat certain foods or choosing not to eat throughout the day until he could get his hands on something as soft and harmless as bread rolls. today is not too different when he arrives to jun's front doorstep with his bags full of crafts, a gift, and eyes glowing with soft expectation.

he doesn't need to knock when they could feel their physical presence come and go. whenever he was here, many, if not all of the problems, for a while, drizzled away with the winter breezes. ]

[He's not really a holidays sort of person. His family isn't Christian so Christmas is just a couples' holiday - but he's part of a couple now, isn't he? He's not sure how to celebrate or what to get Falco, and that worry has been in the back of his mind.]

[Eventually he settles on something, though he hasn't wrapped it up yet. It's in a bag to the side of his room, and he's a little startled when Falco comes in. He'd been thinking, even if he could feel the other coming closer. He's fine, though - he heads out of his room and down the stairs, mostly without pain. He's gotten the stitches removed and proper stitching done at the Lumenarium. He's able to be mobile now, as long as he doesn't break the stitches.]

[He heads over to the other and puts a hand on his arm, looking at the collection of things he's brought. Ah - ah, yes. He nods and brings the other over to the kitchen table so they can work while he makes some simple sandwiches for them. Bread, a little bit of mushroom, some other greens that they still have in stock - it's a salad sandwich, but it's a way to make sure that Falco's eating right. He finishes busying himself and puts the plate down in front of Falco as he sits down next to the other.]

Mm. You've been busy.

christmas delivery - 12/24

[ Daniel is at least a little aware of the entire cultural difference when it comes to Christmas, but.. well, he can't help but want to share Christmas the way he's used to it with his students, so a day before Christmas Day - just to make sure it all ends up at the right places in time, you never know what could happen in Trench - a cute and fluffy Omen stops by the place where Jun lives. Yes, it's indeed Daniel's Omen, recognizable from how it's always hanging around the dojo, but now pulling what seems like a simple little sled.. He is the good Christmas boy. It is him. He's even wearing a festive bowtie.

He'll definitely direct any and all attention towards the gift on the sled though.

Which, in this case, is a wrapped up - though in plain paper, not like Trench has Christmas paper he could use.. - set of two books on marine biology. There's also a bag containing some ricotta cookies.

There's a note attached to the bag, which reads: ]

Even if Christmas or any other holidays may not be as much a thing here, I still wanted to give you something to show my appreciation at the end of the year. I believe I did not see these in the pile you were reading last time I was over at your place, but if you do already own or have read either of these, just let me know and we will see if we can pick out some different books for you.

Thank you for trusting me, and for training with me. I know that things aren't always easy for you in this place, but that just makes me even more grateful that I can be there for you. [He's not in much of a mood to do anything right now. Not with Falco gone. But...]

[... But finding a place Falco can come home to is important, too. He drags himself out of his blankets and taps a reply, carefully avoiding the question.]

Sure. It should be clear out... and it's early enough in the day that there's fewer monsters. I'll be down in a minute.

[A few minutes, actually - his omen is being grumpy and refusing to get off the bed - but he does stumble downstairs, his hair somewhat mussed.]

[ it’s been quite a month, being a squid. for what the time spent was worth, maybe he needed it; as passive as his death was, it was still painfully traumatic in many ways. it first starts with his memories jumbled. what was his, from now, and what was shed, what wasn’t his, because he did have a handful of those. at first, falco’s existence is just that: a bunch of disorganized memories piecing themselves together again. until he knew his name, until he knew where he once stayed, where he used to be, how old he was— how much time has passed, though? it all makes a difference, but it wasn’t exactly a priority while his lungs still heaved for air and pushed out fluid.

he could see again, breath, and in a few hours he remembered what it was like to have arms and legs, and what it was like to have (and need) wobbling strength to lift his own weight.

he’s on the beach, and perle has already happily greeted him. there was one more thing left to do . . .

[Jun feels it before he sees him. Feels that bond click in, feels the flow of feelings and sensations flow to him, flow through him - and he runs down the beach, reaching out for Falco. He skids to a stop and stands in front of Falco, just... taking him in.]

... Welcome home.

[He reaches out and pulls the other boy into a tight hug, starting to cry. His chest heaves, but he's just so relieved. All those days and weeks of waiting... he'd been so scared without Falco. But he knew he'd come back. He knew it.]

I... I fixed up your room... I tried to make it comfortable for you... I just... I just wanted you to have a nice place to come home to...

[well, needless to say mob's guilt has been pretty intense after everything. miss makima told him to take time, and to respect people's boundaries. jun said- he seemed to forgive him before he even snapped out of it, even as he was hurt, and mob isn't sure he deserves that but it's not up to him. forgiveness isn't something he has control over, it's up to jun.

and more than that jun's been hurt. jun is ritsu's age and mob made him bleed. jun's been a good friend to him and been through so much.

so one evening he gets a simple text from mob:]

[He's been resting, even as much as he wants to get up. Mostly just playing some movies on the omni that he's barely paying attention to. And to take his mind off of one thing in particular that he found on the omni...]

[Mob's message isn't a surprise. The boy's too polite for his own good. It takes Jun a moment to try to form the right words.]

You don't need to apologize.

['Idiot', he'd add if it were his old friends from home... but Mob would probably take it too hard.]

I don't know what that was, but it wasn't you. I'm pretty sure you'd rather get hurt than hurt anyone else, wouldn't you?

[ jun will feel a familiar pang press into his thoughts like a lean before the mental pressure becomes a suggestion, a thought, a longing— it's falco reaching out, and before long the sensation hovers there until answered: falco wants to see jun. where are you? probes him in what could only be described as a faraway embrace.

where are you?

it's nothing of an emergency, or urgent, which meant it could wait if jun was busy resting— but it was important. ]

[He feels the feeling before he feels it - Falco. The other boy searching, looking for him. He smiles slightly and sends back the sensation of grass underfoot, the smell of dirt and the vague sound of chickens - he's in the garden, working on setting up some rows of plants. Or soon to be plants, as he hasn't actually put any seeds in the ground yet.]

[He stops what he's doing and sets his shovel down, looking at the coop for a moment. ... He might need to get some chicken wire to protect the plants.]

So maybe Daniel is being paranoid. Just a little bit. But he likes to think he has very good reason for it, and doesn't he always say it's better to have done something for no reason than to not have done something when something does turn out to be bad?

Hence why this decision. Daniel calling Jun. He's taken a few deep breaths before calling to calm himself down, but there's still a touch of worry he can't quite surpress in his voice by the time Jun picks up. ]

Jun. I.. have something to ask you. I imagine it might sound really random, but it's very important. Please trust me.

[Oh, great. A worried sensei. That's... gotta be something important. He sighs and leans back on the couch a little bit.]
